چکیده

Abstract Ruins of archaeological structures, mainly dating to the Bronze Age till Byzantine period, were investigated in a case study Petra region southern Jordan and northern Negev desert Israel. They are covered by post-abandonment debris sediments which provided parent material initial soils now developed on ruins. Such have so far rarely been studied although they likely contain significant aeolian dust fraction because structures wall remains may act as effective traps. We analyzed different types structures: cult sites hilltops, runoff-irrigated terraces slopes, cisterns including associated cleanout mounds. As well, we collected current nearby dry marble It was expected that various ruins location would matter for sediment properties, but substrate composition all similar. This suggests most fine fractions primarily supplied wind whereas fluvial processes only re-distributed sediments. Centennial rainfall variation in semi arid and tropical humid environments in the cardamom hill slopes, southern Western Ghats, India

Studies of rainfall variation generally focus on large areas. For example, in India, the area average monsoon rainfall series of the whole country or meteorological subdivisions are used. This would be of no use for local agriculture, particularly in places where rainfall is very high or very low, especially for crops like small cardamom and vanilla which are very sensitive to soil moisture and...

Spatial and temporal patterns of Holocene vegetation and climate changes in arid and semi-arid China

Pollen data from 30 sites in arid and semi-arid regions of China were reviewed to document regional patterns of Holocene vegetation and climate change and to understand the large-scale controls on these changes. Vegetation at most sites in eastern Inner Mongolia switched between forest, forest steppe, and typical steppe, showing maximum moisture conditions before 6 ka (1 ka 1⁄4 1000 cal yr BP) ...

Simulation of the catchments hydrological processes in arid, semi-arid and semi-humid areas

Hydrological processes and their spatial distribution directly are relevant to climate, topography, geology, and land use in the watershed. Therefore, use of a model whit integrity and high performance for simulating the process in deferent watersheds is very important. In this study was assessment performance of semi-distributed SWAT model in simulating hydrology processes in three watersheds ...

Potassium reserves in soils with arid and semi-arid climate in southern Iran: a perspective based on potassium fixation

ABSTRACT- The present research was conducted to study K forms and fixation in soils of southern Iran (Hormozgan Province) with aridic and aridic-ustic regimes and to address the relations between soil mineralogy and potassium forms. Thirteen surface soil samples (0-25 cm) were collected from different regions and analyzed in laboratory. Illite and feldspar and mica are the major clay and soil m...

Investigating the interaction between rivers and sand dunes in arid and semi-arid regions of Iran

Extended abstract 1- Introduction Fluvial and aeolian processes are important factors in changing the surface of morphology in the Earth. When rivers and sand dunes meet, the transportation of sediment  between them can lead to one of the systems or both  of them change. With their connection between river sediment and wind systems there would be lots of reactions, but very little has been st...
